If you’ve been following me from the beginning, then you know periodically I contribute to USA Today. In December of 2012, I wrote an article about Creating A Vision Board and how effective it can be in helping you visually see and achieve your goals. I think vision boards are great but a lot changes throughout the year and sometimes you need to update, refresh and add things to your list of goals. After moving into a new place, I wanted to create a space that could inspire me daily since I work from home. Vision boards are often created on poster boards or construction paper in a collage format but it’s easy to get lost and distracted amongst the unorganized pasted images.

That’s why I created an INSPIRATION WALL.

An INSPIRATION WALL not only forces you to view it daily but it serves as a reminder to why you’re working so hard, why you’re studying for that degree, why you bust your butt as a parent and even why you stay loyal and committed in a relationship. It serves as a daily reminder intended to inspire you and give you that extra push on those days when you need it. An INSPIRATION WALL helps answer the question of “Why”.

Example: I work each day to be one step closer to my dreams
I work each day to afford cosmetic dentistry
I work each day to plan a future of financial freedom

To create my INSPIRATION WALL, I went to Ikea and found the cutest picture frames and specifically purchased them in pink and green because they reminded me of the Miss Business logo. I chose to add rhinestones to a few of the frames to give it a little pop of girly. Before I started the process of creating my INSPIRATION WALL, I took a few minutes to write down what I wanted each frame to represent and also created a layout on the floor before creating holes in the wall. I absolutely wanted to avoid randomness and disorder. My frames are mixed with images pulled from magazines, handwritten reminders and printed text.
Layout-Inspiration

I sit at my desk more than I sit on my sofa and probably more than I sleep in my bed – therefore it’s important for me to be surrounded by inspiration. My INSPIRATION WALL consist of quotes, biblical passages, messages and reminders that motivate me throughout the daily grind. Many of you can agree that the journey of business ownership, chasing your dreams or climbing the traditional career ladder is not easy and consists of good days and not so good days.
Finished Inspiration Wall

I don’t have the most glamourous desk or working area for that matter, so I’ve had to make due with what I have, until I earn something better. Every once in a while, I stare into space or go into deep thought and I’ve found by looking at a quote or motivating message, it gives me that extra silent push that I may be needing at a particular moment. Over the years, I’ve taught myself to be my best cheerleader and that’s not always easy but it’s mandatory along this journey. I give myself more pep talks than a Superbowl winning coach! Take that John Harbaugh!

My frames represent:

Family

Relationship/Love

Quote/Words

Career

Financial Goals

Business

Faith

Whether you create a collage in your room, office desk, living room or at work, take some time to create your INSPIRATION WALL. You can never be too inspired! I’ll do another post soon on how I decorated my desk and used the other items featured in the picture.

MATERIALS USED:

Ikea Nyttja Picture Frames:  I used three different sizes that aren’t sold online. Check the store (links below)
4X6  : $2.99/2pack
5X7: $3.99/2pack
8 1/2 X 11  : $1.99/each

Hanging nails or your choice of hanging option: I used 30lbs professional picture hangers by OOK. I don’t know how much they cost, my boyfriend pulled them out of his tool bag. Check your local hardware store
Images:  My images were a mix of printed text, torn from magazines and handwritten
Glue:  I used Elmer’s glue and I didn’t like how it bleed through my images and created a wrinkle effect. Maybe rubber cement is a better option or double-side tape.
Optional:  Rhinstones (add a dash of glam)
