Whether it’s a full face of makeup, a dash of mascara or pop of lip color – most women wear makeup. Last week, I told you about my experience visiting Sephora’s Beauty Studio and learning about different products for my skintone and makeup needs. I was also shown how to highlight and contour my face – from here on out, you can call me Kryonce’. LOL! During my visit I met aspiring makeup artist Marcus Jenkins, whose from a small town in West Virgina and holds a degree in business but has an extensive background in the arts. Not only did he show me different makeup techniques but he’s sharing some of his best makeup tips with the readers of Miss Business Blog. Enjoy!
What makeup advice would you share with women?
My best makeup advice for women… Practice and play! Makeup is suppose to be fun! It’s not just a method for disguising the “flaws” we all think we have, but it’s an opportunity to really take time and appreciatte/highlight your assets. So don’t be intimidated by any aspect of makeup. Take time to just play with product and observe the details of your face! No look or technique is impossible if you take a casual approach and just have fun. Remember, it will wash off.
What are three beauty essentials that every woman should have?
To start, a good moisturizer! Many women don’t consider moisturizers when they go to put on their make up but most who are passionate about beauty will tell you that skincare (healthy hydrated skin) is the foundation to a great makeup application. Not only will it keep you looking fresh, but it will help your makeup perform that much better and with a lot less product!
Eyeliner: One of the most frequently referenced features women mention when asked, “what is your favorite facial feature?” are the eyes. Showcase them! They do more talking than your mouth does believe it or not, so dont be afraid to play them up and get bold with your color and line shape!
The proper foundation: Whether you’re a full coverage kind of gal or a more natural beauty, having the absolute perfect shade of foundation for you could never be more key. For those “I don’t like foundation, it’s too heavy on my face” ladies…IT’S 2013! There’s a whole world of pigmented alternatives out there for you, everything from lightweight tinted moisturizers and primers, just to even you out and if for nothing else to protect your skin from the elements.
What are three cost effective beauty routines for any budget?
I can’t stress moisturizer enough. Taking care of your skin isn’t only important to your makeup application but it’s important to your health!
I’d also have to say that a solid face primer is a great item to have in your makeup arsenol, just because there are so many different options available and at many affordable price points. They will stretch your foundations usage further and allow you to correct even the most sever discolorations and uneven skin.
Lastly I’d have to go with some pop of color! Whether its a shadow or a lipstick/stain, they’re the most accessible and the most influential to the overall look of your face. The eyes and lips are the focal points of your face so give them the spotlight and invest in some color…and an investment doesn’t mean it has to cost major bucks to be effective!

What should every woman have?
Every woman should have brushes! Makeup brushes are just so important to a good makeup application. They’re the most sanitary method of applying products and they help you achieve that movie/pop star look. Even if that’s not what you’re after, the science that goes into crafting specific brushes for specific products has a reason to it’s rhyme. Brushes help make sure you’re not wasting the product, and therefore your hard earned money!
